THE POLITICAL ATTACK BY THE RACISTS AND THE VICTORIOUS COUNTERATTACK BY FRANK PARLATO
This is a piece of American history, how a family could be attacked by officials from the government and how they fought back and took those officials right out of office.
In November of 1997, two very foolish and racist politicians along with several imbecile helpers launched a full throttled attack on my brother, my father and I. Surprise attacks such as this one gives a temporary advantage to the attacker. However, truth gives the permanent advantage to anyone and the end result of their racist, vicious, attack by two elected officials operating for their personal agendas under the guise of their respective offices resulted in one of the great political history lessons in America. Parlato proved to the world, yes you can beat City Hall. After taking the full brunt of their powerful and vicious attack on not only him, but his family, with an incredible series of prejudicial and near imbecile reporting by the Buffalo News, Parlato was able to turn the tables on his attackers and through a brilliant strategy of public relations, protests and sponsoring and supporting candidates to run against the two elected officials in term, Parlato was able to oust both of them from office. Along the way he totally broke up their political machine and in doing so for ever ended the racist notion in Buffalo that members of certain races could not own homes in certain neighborhoods.
Though much vilified along the way by ill informed people, he fought like few men ever have for racial equality, while oftentimes being castigated by the very people he was helping. Buffalo's innercity went into the same decline as the innercities of Detroit, Washington, Rochester, Philadelphia, New York City, Niagara Falls, Cleveland and countless others. The decline was identical. It happened in every major innercity in the 80s and 90s. They were caused by factors such as racism, poverty, ageing housing stock, declining population. In every other city, it was clear what the causes were. In buffalo, NY, however, astoundingly, 2 racist politicians tried to put the blame on Frank Parlato Jr. for every ill caused in every neighborhood in every section of Buffalo, NY. What was really disturbing the 2 politicians, one a city councilman by the name of David Franczyk and the other an Erie county legislator by the name Gregory Olma was that Parlato's brother James was selling homes to qualified black families in generally white neighborhoods in their overlapping districts. Needless to say , Olma and Franzcyk were white and their districts had white plurality .
