PARLATO IS RIGHT: As a writer, I never comment on a colleague’s work. Well, at least not often. Not unless it is either so off base that it just begs for a pitchout in that direction; or it is such a homerun that I just have to cheer it on, if for no other reason than jealously: in that I could not have said it better.
And so, in as few words as I can, and then moving on to something else; Frank Parlato’s article, “NYPA SET TO STEAL 50 YEARS MORE”, in this publication’s December edition, is quite a read.
I have neither met Parlato, nor do I ever agree with him 100%, I often come darned close. Not to rehash his words, but in them I hear the echoing words of former Niagara Falls mayor Jake Palillo in what Parlato says, as told to me by Palillo after he had addressed a prominent Niagara Falls attorney who has made millions from suing the city.
“You don’t get what you get because you are so smart,” Palillo said. Then pointing to the then-city council sitting at the dais, “You get what you get because they are so stupid.”
Like Palillo, Parlato is often very right. But, some get because they are indeed smart; but notwithstanding, a lot of what they get is indeed because we are so stupid … and so lazy.
But, enough said about that here. After all; stupid people certainly don’t read this publication. Why should they? They may feel compelled to do something about what they read, and that is the last thing that lazy, stupid people want to do.
