Following the widely publicized arrest of David J. Miller earlier in the month, the Sweet Home School District has decided to place the 34-year veteran science teacher on paid leave, assigning a replacement teachers to his classroom.
Miller allegedly conducted "experiments" with at least five male high school students, experiments which required students to disrobe. He is also accused of fondling or passing his hand over at least one of the male student's genitals...
"It's as if he (Miller) were re-assigned," explained Sweet Home Superintendent Gary R. Cooper. "In his" case he's been re-assigned to his home. Legally, we can't withhold his pay."
The district is, however, paying two teachers to replace him.
"We're in a position of having to await the decision of the court," Cooper added.
While the school district awaits judicial disposition, administrators have arranged special, private counseling for any student who might feel traumatised by Miller's arrest.
When asked if any students availed themselves, copper declined to answer.
"If the students thought we were going to monitor them and make a report, they might be disinclined to seek help," Cooper said.
According to sources, the fact that Miller has no previous record makes it unlikely that he'll serve prison, time, if convicted.
